Executive Summary

OffDeck partnered with Chainlink Labs during one of the most explosive growth periods in blockchain history. From 2019 to 2022, the total value locked (TVL) in DeFi protocols surged from $600 million to a peak of $180 billion [DeFiLlama, 2022], representing a staggering 30,000% increase.

Chainlink stood at the center of this revolution as the critical infrastructure provider powering smart contract development across the ecosystem. The company's oracle networks went from securing $7 billion in value in early 2021 to over $75 billion by late 2021 [Chainlink, The Year in Chainlink 2021] - a 10x growth in under a year. This unprecedented expansion created an urgent need for sophisticated growth infrastructure.

Our engagement began at a crucial moment - immediately following the hiring of Chainlink's Head of Growth, when the company was experiencing hypergrowth but lacked the fundamental systems to measure, analyze, and optimize their expansion.

Our mission was to rapidly establish the foundational growth infrastructure needed to support Chainlink's explosive growth in the Web3 space, enabling them to scale their growth team and operations effectively.

This wasn't just about implementing tracking systems - it was about building a growth foundation that could support a company whose technology was becoming fundamental to the entire blockchain ecosystem.

02The challenge

The Challenge

Chainlink was experiencing unprecedented growth during the blockchain boom, but faced several critical challenges:

  1. No Growth Infrastructure

Complete absence of analytics, tracking, and marketing automation systems

  2. Developer Ecosystem Demands

Urgent need to scale developer education and adoption across varying expertise levels

  3. Content Bottlenecks

Critical marketing initiatives were stalled by limited design and development resources

  4. Marketing Operations Gaps

No systematic way to manage leads or nurture developer relationships

  5. Cross-functional Complexity

Need to coordinate between technical teams, DevRel, and marketing for accurate content creation

03Our approach

Strategic Approach & Execution

    • Google Tag Manager

    Establishing the Analytics Foundation

When we began working with Chainlink, there was no systematic way to track, measure, or optimize growth initiatives. The company was operating at massive scale without visibility into key performance metrics or user behaviors.

Our first critical step was implementing a comprehensive analytics infrastructure:

    • Architected and deployed a custom Google Tag Manager implementation specifically designed for Web3 interactions
    • Built a privacy-preserving event tracking framework that could capture meaningful data while respecting the anonymous nature of blockchain users
    • Created standardized tracking methodologies that could scale across multiple products and chains
    30 days

Within the first 30 days, we went from zero visibility to tracking core user journeys and establishing baseline metrics for growth optimization.

    • HubSpot

    Building Marketing Automation Infrastructure

As Chainlink's community and customer base expanded exponentially, the need for sophisticated marketing automation became critical. We led the end-to-end implementation of HubSpot Enterprise.

    Key achievements included:

    • Designed and implemented complete HubSpot Enterprise architecture
    • Created segmented communication workflows for developers, enterprises, and community members
    • Developed custom objects and properties to track Web3-specific interactions
    • Built automated nurture campaigns that drove developer adoption
    • Established lead scoring mechanisms adapted for the Web3 ecosystem
    • Salesforce

Architecting Salesforce and Integrating Sales & Marketing Operations

Connecting marketing efforts to Chainlink's rapidly growing global sales team presented unique challenges. Traditional CRM approaches assumed linear customer journeys and clear handoff points between marketing and sales. But Chainlink's reality was far more complex – developers and enterprise prospects often operated under pseudonyms, communicated through Telegram, Discord, and WhatsApp, and maintained intentionally anonymous profiles as part of Web3's privacy-first culture.

The existing disconnect between marketing and sales teams meant valuable context was being lost.

A developer completing advanced tutorials might later appear to sales as a cold lead under a different pseudonym.

Enterprise accounts showing deep engagement across educational content remained invisible to account executives, with crucial conversations happening in private Telegram channels rather than traditional email threads.

Working deeply with the Chainlink Sales Operations team and Salesforce Architects, we began reimagining Salesforce's architecture to match Web3's unique dynamics. This meant creating data structures and workflows between systems that could:

    • Effectively deliver marketing qualified leads into Salesforce with intelligent queue assignment based on timezone and sales team availability
    • Enable sales teams to rapidly evaluate and process leads through streamlined Salesforce workflows
    • Deliver actionable data points and context needed for immediate sales engagement
    • Design and implement a sophisticated Salesforce Campaign hierarchy for accurate reporting, forecasting, and productive sales-to-marketing feedback loops
  1. Building a Demand Generation Powerhouse

With foundational systems in place, we faced a new challenge: Chainlink's growth team needed to move rapidly to capture market opportunity, but the design and Webflow team was overwhelmed. Critical landing pages for new initiatives were stuck in weeks-long queues, hampering the team's ability to execute.

Our solution was bold but pragmatic. We created a separate domain property that maintained Chainlink's high design standards while enabling rapid deployment. This wasn't about circumventing quality - it was about creating a parallel fast track for growth initiatives. The impact was immediate: page launch timelines dropped from weeks to days, and the growth team could finally move at market speed.

This newfound agility enabled us to tackle an even bigger opportunity: Chainlink's education strategy. We envisioned and built the Education Hub, a comprehensive resource that would establish Chainlink as the thought leader across the blockchain ecosystem. Working closely with Chainlink's DevRel team and technical experts, we expanded this vision with the Tutorial Hub - a middle-funnel solution bridging the gap between basic blockchain knowledge and actual Chainlink implementation.

    Impact:

    • 300% increase in organic traffic within two quarters
    • 70% reduction in page launch timelines
    • Created scalable framework for developer education
